Technical Details & Limitations

MTDNA Information from Nebula Genomics

The MTDNA data within Nebula Genomics' CRAM files cannot be accurately converted into a RAW file, which means:

Predictions from genealogy third-party websites will not be accurate for MTDNA
However, the MTDNA FASTA and BAM files are correctly generated
The MTDNA haplogroups in the MTDNA.txt file are reliably predicted

INDELs Limitations

INDELs (insertions and deletions) have specific limitations:

INDELs are not accurately converted into RAW files
Any Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) representing an INDEL may be incorrect
This limitation is inherent to the conversion process from WGS to RAW format

Whole Exome Sequencing Considerations

If your test is a Whole Exome Sequencing, please note:

Lower coverage compared to Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS)
Resulting RAW files will contain fewer genotyped SNPs
Files may not be accepted by some third-party websites
Ancestry estimates could be less accurate than a RAW file from a WGS analysis

FTDNA BIGY Files

For FTDNA BIGY files, the service provides:

Only YDNA prediction
A VCF file containing the SNPs found in the BAM/CRAM file
Limited to YDNA data as this analysis only provides Y chromosome information
